:: swingin' both ways :: true testimony of a mimato/yamachi fan
Ah, you precocious yaoi fangirls! What would we do without your belittling commentary?
Take this reworded, but intact, example:
"Go to Anipike and look at the couples page listings...it's
just scary. taiora and mimato, which are ridiculous, are the "normal" ones...they
have the bad habit of pairing characters up because they 'look good together'.
it's just painful to look at some of these sites...I'm so glad I'm a (yaoi couple
here) fan."
*gasp* Dear God! Mimato fans, HIDE YOUR FACES IN SHAME! Head for the alps (the
border's closed)! They don't approve of us! I'm so embarrassed...
Actually, I'm not. They can bite me. And this coming from someone who SUPPORTS
yaoi couples in addition to the "ridiculous" ones like Mimato and Taiora.
(You want truly ridiculous? Try Jyoukari. I've become a big fan of that lately.)
Yeah, I know that might be a difficult concept to grasp, for both people who hate
yaoi and those who swear by it. The anti-yaois probably think I'm a sick freak
and the Taito fangirls probably think I'm only saying it to kiss Clare's ass (which
everybody does, and anyway, my preferred method of ass-kissing is giving
gift art ^_~).
Granted, I like Yamachi (not Taito, there's a difference; Matt's on top) mostly
on the merits of putting a submissive Taichi in drag. I tell you, I'm going to
have one fun art gallery when my Yamachi shrine is up! ^_^ But before I developed
my little Yamachi fetish, I didn't care much for Digi-yaoi. This isn't to say
I didn't like other yaoi/slash couples. I loved (and still love)
1x2, I'm addicted to HP slash (mostly Remus/Sirius), and I have a rapidly growing
affinity for Yukito/Touya (who are, firmly in my opinion, the most adorable
couple in all yaoi-dom). But for whatever reason, Digi-yaoi...wasn't really my
bag. Sure, the evidence was firmly in place, but it just kinda bounced right off
me.
I'm not sure what caused the click to take place. I think it might have
been that 'girly Tai' Koani did, because not long after that I started brainstorming
fanart ideas, and to my surprise I was brainstorming Tai in ridiculous drag outfits,
being second banana to Yama. (One in particular which will be the opening layout
for my Yamachi page...^_^) But if you think this caused me to somehow "see
the light" and abandon Mimato/etc., it actually did the opposite. Instead,
I started throwing my time and ideas into Tryst and this site.
Being a middle-of-the-roader, I get to sit back and take a look at both sides.
Mimato/het fans get trashed for being unimaginative or "lemmings", having
lame or no evidence, for supporting implausible couples, or because they are shallow
and pair up characters based on looks. Taito/yaoi/yuri fans get trashed by pathetic
homophobes who can't accept the fact that sometimes, boys like boys and girls
like girls. They'll flame guestbooks demanding that what offended them be removed,
and some of these people even have crap on their own sites like "we're yaoi-free...because
it's just icky." Sigh...I picked the worst position, didn't I?
Not really. I see this as being open to most everything. I support both sides,
I respect both sides. I may not like the way Taito-diehards whomp on my other
couples, but hey, it's their opinion. (I don't, however, respect the anti-yaoi
sentiments...people, you don't have to like it, but if you believe that
homosexuality is sick, I have two words for you: population control. And
yes, I am straight, by the way.) Okay, so maybe I show some lack of respect when
I start talking smack about Sorato, but I'll admit that it beats the hell out
of Junato any day. ^_^
So, really, why couldn't Matt have both Tai and Mimi at the same time? Methinks
there's enough of the Ishida booty to go around. =)
